KUNDIAWA CULTURAL SHOW A STEPPINGSTONE FOR CHIMBU

The Kundiawa Cultural Show is a stepping-stone for the people of Kundiwa-Gembol and Chimbu Province. The show has been earmarked for September 10-12 annually.

The Kundiawa Cultural Show was formally launched by the Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Isi Henry Leonard in Kundiawa Town, Chimbu Province on June 29th.

Three days prior to its inaugural show on September 10, NCC dished out a K10,000 cheque to support the festival. The cheque presentation on September 7th was in addition to the K20,000 committed by the Minister during the launching.

NCC Executive Director Mr Steven Enomb Kilanda said this is a great initiative undertaken by Kundiawa Gembol District Development Authority (DDA) led by Patron and local Member of Parliament, Muguwa Dilu, who is also the Vice Minister assisting Prime Minister.

“Papua New Guinea is a diverse and unique country. We have over 800 plus cultures and languages that must be advocated and promoted,” Mr. Kilanda said, adding it is a mammoth task his agency cannot do it alone.

He stressed the importance of partnership and commended the initiative of Kundiawa-Gembol District Development Authority for realizing the significance of collaborative efforts in the cultural space.

“We need partnership with all districts and provinces. So I think, what you are doing is the right thing, to partner with us NCC and to preserve and promote culture in Kundiawa-Gembol district and the entire Chimbu province,” said Mr. Kilanda.

He also called on the 89 districts and 22 provinces to partner with National Cultural Commission to deliver cultural programs and services.

“For us National Cultural Commission, we are happy to work with all the districts development authorities (DDA’s) and provinces authorities including all political heads, all Governors so we are appealing to them to come onboard and partner with NCC to deliver cultural programs,” he said.
