The National Cultural Commission (NCC) has been steadfast in its mission to promote and expose Papua New Guinean artists on the international stage over the past five years. As part of this ongoing effort, NCC presented return tickets to Mr. Anslom Nakikus and two of his band members on August 22, 2024, enabling their participation in the International Singer-Songwriter Association event in Atlanta, USA.
In a presentation held at the NCC boardroom on Level 9 of Monia Tower, Downtown Port Moresby, Ms. Jenny Jeffrey, the Executive Manager of Corporate Services at NCC, represented the Executive Director, Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda. During the event, she handed over tickets to Mr. Nakikus and his band member, Toxic Marn.
Ms. Jeffrey said, “We are proud to support our local talent as they take their music to international stages.”
Mr. Nakikus expressed his gratitude for the National Cultural Commission’s unwavering support.He said, “This has been a very long journey, and it is an honor to receive such consistent backing from the National Cultural Commission. NCC’s support has been instrumental in my musical career. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the NCC for their tireless support on this musical journey.”
The tickets, valued at K27,000, symbolize the commission’s commitment to supporting Mr. Nakikus as a PNG music ambassador.
After the event in Atlanta, Mr. Nakikus and his band will travel to Los Angeles on August 24, where he will also be recognized at the Intercontinental Music Awards for three of his new songs.
The NCC’s ongoing support for Anslom Nakikus and his band highlights its dedication to promoting Papua New Guinean music on the global stage. As Mr. Nakikus gets on this international journey. The backing of National Cultural Commission not only boosts his career but also shines a spotlight on the rich musical talent developing in Papua New Guinea.
This collaboration between local artists and national institutions paves the way for greater opportunities and recognition for PNG’s cultural ambassadors worldwide.
