The National Cultural Commission is appealing to the districts and provinces to join the commission to work in the pathway and journey to preserve, protect, develop, promote and safeguard Papua New Guinea’s tangible and intangible cultural heritages.
This was the key message from the Executive Director for National Cultural Commission Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda when welcoming its newest partner in cultural development, Samarai-Murua District Development Authority at the official launching of the Samarai-Murua Island Music, Song and dance festival Samarai-Murua Island music, song and dance festival will be bigger and better featuring some of the Southern region’s best and top Musicians and local artists.
Music Culture is living, consequently maintaining and reviving these cultures at the community level is phenomenal says Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda, National Cultural Commission.
We are going rural, back to the communities to revive, develop, establish and promote our tangible and intangible cultural heritages.
Culture is all about people, and the National Cultural Commission is connecting with the people and boundaries through cultures.
Samarai-Murua becomes the latest districts to partner with National Cultural Commission to develop cultures in the Islands as well as the main land, Milne bay Province.
The National Cultural Commission is a small Government agency mandated under the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture. Hence, it is now partnering with Provincial government and district development authority (DDA) to develop, revive, establish and promote cultural development in the communities, local level government, districts and provinces.
We are appealing to the Provincial governments, and district development authority to partner with the National Cultural Commission to develop, revive and maintain our cultures by working with the people in the communities.
The National Cultural Commission has signed memorandum of understanding with seven Provincial Governments, Madang Provincial government, Enga, Western New Britain, Oro Provincial government, Autonomous region of Bougainville, Milne bay and East New Britain Provincial Governments and the latest addition is Samarai-Murua District Development Authority.
We are appealing to the other district development authorities and Provincial governments to follow similar approach and come partner with NCC to preserve, develop and promote our cultures at the districts and provincial levels by hosting provincial and district shows and festivals,” said Mr Kilanda.
The National Cultural Commission is open for dialogue and welcomes districts and provinces who are committing to help develop and promote cultures at the community and grassroots level.
NCC is serving its mission to preserve, protect, develop, promote and safeguard Papua New Guinea’s indigenous cultures with the motto to go rural to reach the unreachable and connect boundaries through culture. But, NCC itself cannot do it alone, it needs partnership and collaborative effort to revive, preserve, develop and promote these tangible and intangible cultural heritages.
