ENGA CULTURAL SHOW LOOKING FORWARD TO CELEBRATES 30 YEARS

For the past 30 years, the Enga Cultural Show has been a cherished event in Papua New Guinea. Each August, tribes from across Enga Province unite to showcase their ancient traditions. They proudly wear vibrant costumes, perform lively dances, sing age-old songs, and partake in rituals that honour their ancestors.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event, sparking great excitement among participants who are diligently rehearsing their performances and ensuring their attire is flawless. More than just a form of entertainment, the show serves as a powerful demonstration of the resilience of these tribes’ cultures in today’s modern world.

The National Cultural Commission (NCC) continues to play a crucial role in supporting cultural events throughout Papua New Guinea, emphasizing the importance of preserving, promoting, and developing our cultural heritage.

On behalf of Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda, the Executive Director of the National Cultural Commission, Mr. David Taim, the Executive Manager of Festival, Marketing, Cultural Extension Services, and Art Industry at the NCC, emphasized the organization’s commitment to preserving the country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Mr. Taim said, “NCC is dedicated to supporting shows and festivals nationwide as part of our responsibility as custodians of culture and arts in Papua New Guinea.”

“These events play a significant role in passing down cultural knowledge to younger generations and advocating for preserving our cultural diversity,” he said.

Mrs. Margaret Potane, the Director of Commerce, Culture, and Tourism of Enga Province, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Enga Provincial Government for the NCC’s continuous support of the Enga Cultural Show. She noted the positive impact of these events in preserving cultural traditions and attracting visitors to Enga Province.

“We are thankful to the National Cultural Commission for their unwavering support,” “NCC’s contribution ensures the success of our cultural show, benefiting both our community and the broader tourism sector,” she said.

As preparations for this year’s milestone celebration commenced, approximately 25-30 tourists have already arrived in Enga Province to witness the festivities.

In a show of support, the National Cultural Commission presented a K10,000 check to the organizers of the Enga Cultural Show, underscoring the commission’s commitment to the event’s success. With anticipation building, the 30th Enga Cultural Show promises to be a significant celebration of Enga’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.
