
Papua New Guinea made a remarkable impact at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture in Honolulu, USA, receiving accolades for its rich and diverse arts and cultural heritage.
Steven Kilanda, head of the PNG delegation and executive director of the National Cultural Commission, expressed profound satisfaction with the team’s performance and extended gratitude to all participants and officials for representing the country with honor and distinction on the global stage.
Part of a group of 27 Pacific Island nations participating in the event from June 6 to 16, Papua New Guinea, stood out prominently in showcasing the indigenous arts and cultural wealth of the Pacific region Kilanda, overwhelmed with positive feedback, praised the delegation’s exceptional delivery, emphasizing their role in promoting and marketing the country worldwide.
“I am immensely proud of our achievement. The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Kilanda, highlighting the contributions of cultural groups from Simbu, Morobe, Central, and Hela, as well as individual artists, musicians, filmmakers, and artisans. He credited their efforts for placing PNG at the forefront of the festival, underscoring the country’s distinctive cultural identity.
Acknowledging the crucial support from the National Government and provincial administrations of Central, Morobe, and Simbu, Kilanda also expressed gratitude to various stakeholders and PNG citizens in the USA who assisted the delegations during the festival. As Kilanda and the remaining members of the delegation return home, he looks forward to building on this success and continuing to promote Papua New Guinea’s cultural richness on the global stage.
